Murray to donate Queen's winnings to Grenfell Tower fire victims

British media reported on Tuesday that World No 1 Andy Murray will donate his winnings from the Queen’s Club Championship -- which could amount to almost 350 thousand pounds ($443,520.00) -- to a fund helping victims of the GrenfellTower fire in which more than 75 people have died.

The tower block is only a few kilometres away from the Queen's Club in West London.

According to The Independent, the tournament is also likely to make a significant donation following last week’s fire at the London tower block, which is now believed to have claimed 79 lives.

Murray is known for being a generous soul -- four years ago he gave his £73,000 winner’s cheque to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity after his close friend, Ross Hutchins, was treated by the hospital following his diagnosis with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Among other things, the top seed at the tournament, Murray will have a new opponent for the opening match of his title defence at the Queen's competition on Tuesday after fellow Briton Aljaz Bedene withdrew with a wrist injury.

Lucky loser Jordan Thompson of Australia will replace him in the third match on centre court.

Thompson, 23, who is ranked 90th in the world, reached the final of the Surbiton challenger event last week. He and Murray have never previously met.
