The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, the third leg of the 'Greatest Race On Earth', will feature a strong line-up on January 15 as more athletes from around the world descended in Mumbai in quest of the coveted crown.

Among the strong contenders will be the Kenyans among men and the Russians among women on a challenging course that will test endurance and speed as they hope to improve upon personal best timings.

Undoubtedly, the Kenyans will be the favourites among men, while the Russians are expected dominate the womens race.

Russian women have always figured in the top five in almost every marathon.

Coach of the Indian squad in the Nations Challenge category, Pritam Singh of Army Sports Institute said he will enter two runners in the Full Marathon and six in the Half Marathon as their focus will be on improving timings.

"We have a strong team that is capable of lasting the course. But for us clocking a good time is important. If we manage that, we can win," explained Singh.

For Subramaniam Ramasamy of Singapore, participating in the Mumbai Marathon will be more important than winning titles.

"I would love to be a winner, but the field is very strong. But I am happy to participate and represent my country," said Ramasamy, a physical education instructor who will feature in the Nations Challenge.
