Sanjay Manjrekar loves to court controversy. Or so it seems. After taking a dig at the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena on Twitter on Tuesday, the former India batsman took a swipe at tennis ace Sania Mirza.
Sania, who has completed a staggering 80 weeks as World No 1, was sharing her joy on Twitter, where she posted: “Today I complete 80 consecutive weeks as the number 1 player in d world. its been an amazing journey and just inspires me to work harder @WTA”.
Now, Manjrekar, known to be a controversy courter, either woke up on the wrong side of the bed or was just not excited enough to partake in Sania’s success, and decided to belittle the tennis ace.
In reply to Sania’s tweet, the former Mumbai batsman wrote: “No 1 doubles player you mean. Congrats!”
Sania, being Sania, gave it back in equal measure.
“Since I don't play singles anymore isn't that obvious/common sense?my bad, common sense is not that common after all I guess.. :) Hey, but thanks for the wishes though,” she replied to Manjrekar’s tweet.
Sania gave him a piece of her mind, but there was more in store for Manjrekar, who got roasted on Twitter for his sly tweet.
From questioning his batting to calling him ‘jealous person’, Manjrekar was heavily trolled.
Some one called NothingIsImpossible wrote: “@sanjaymanjrekar of course @MirzaSania meant double. Never thought u were so dumb to confrm it.”
One Rajesh Gupta @Rajesh3010 tweeted: @sanjaymanjrekar @MirzaSania @WTA Proud moment Sania. Many congratulations and way to go.... Sanjay, thaand Rakh.
A handle called @doctornobody wrote: @sanjaymanjrekar Sir aap to no.1 commentator bhi nahi ban paye!
Someone called @deadlyowl tweeted: @sanjaymanjrekar your attempts to belittle other people are sadder than your batting career.
The trolling continued as one @Mrinalkhona tweeted: @sanjaymanjrekar were you even no 10th anywhere anytime in your life?? Trying to do @virendersehwag ?? You do not have the class nor taste. @sanjaymanjrekar @MirzaSania sanjay manjrekar you are like your commentary which has more of jealousy then sense..Sania proud of you.
Gaurav @basher24 tweeted: @sanjaymanjrekar @MirzaSania @WTA is it so diffcult to be happy with others achievement hv u ever been No 1 in anything in life”.
As the old adage goes: ‘Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned’.
Tweet-happy Manjrekar brought it upon himself.
