Manchester United though is being tipped as a frontrunner in the race to sign the German midfielder.
Sir Alex Ferguson feels that had United's midfield posed more of a scoring threat last season, his team would have won the Premier League. That's why Ozil, who in 53 games for club and country last season, scored 11 goals and made 33 assists, fits the bill.
The Werder Bremen star had recently showed interest to move out of Germany. Being a Barcelona fan he made known his interest to move to the Nou Camp, but the Catalan giants and rivals Real Madrid reportedly delayed making a move for him while considering other buys.
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is also a big admirer of Ozil, but has other priorities, like Benfica's Brazil midfielder Ramires.
Bremen initially priced Ozil out of a move when they valued him at £25 million, but with just 12-months left on his deal, and the prospect of losing him on a free transfer as early as January, the Bundesliga side appears willing to sell their star asset £8m less.
Ferguson is unlikiely to miss the chance to snatch the kid who could bring about a change in their fortunes this season.
