He finished behind Leuris Pupo of Cuba, who won the gold medal.

Vijay's medal is India's second at the Games, Gagan Naran having won a bronze in the 10m Air Rifle event earlier.

The Olympic Gold Quest-supported marksman created a sensation by winning three gold medals and a silver from the four 25 metre pistol events he participated in at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. The same year, he won a bronze medal at the Asian Games.
