Midfielder Frank Lampard could miss champions Chelsea's Premier League opener at home to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti said he sustained an ankle problem in England's 2-1 victory over Hungary at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday and would need to be checked in the morning before it could be determined whether he could play against West Brom.
Ancelotti added that long-term fitness doubts, goalkeeper Petr Cech and defender Alex, were ready to return at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea won the Premier League and FA Cup double last season while West Brom were promoted as runners-up from the Championship (second division).
