Ivanovic knocked out of Italian Open by Radwanska

May 06, 2009 20:55 IST

Ana Ivanovic's preparations for her French Open title defence suffered a setback when she was knocked out of the Italian Open after a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 third round defeat by Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska on Wednesday.

The Serbian fifth seed looked to be on her way to victory after opening a 4-0 lead in the final set, having fought back from a set down, but she then lost six games in a row.

Ivanovic had tidied up her act in the second set of the match at the Rome tournament, which is played on clay like the French Open, after losing the first set in just 23 minutes.

She got her serve going in the second set to climb back on level terms after failing to hold it once in the first.

Radwanska, seeded 10th, will play American fourth seed Venus Williams or Russia's Anna Chakvetadze in the quarter-finals.
