Thongkoisep Haokip and Dudu Omagbemi scored a hat-trick each as FC Goa demolished Mumbai City FC 7-0 in the biggest win of the Indian Super League football, in Margao, on Tuesday.
Dudu (41st, 63rd and 66th) and Haokip (33rd, 52nd and 79th) made merry with three goals each while substitute Reinaldo Oliveira (90th) added one more in a completely one-sided match at Nehru Stadium in Margao.
The earlier biggest margin win was the 5-0 thrashing of FC Pune City by Mumbai City FC in Mumbai last season.
The victory was not only a sweet revenge of the away 0-2 defeat for FC Goa but also helped them maintain their top spot in the league standings with 18 points from 10 matches.
After Tuesday's humiliating defeat, the worst in the ISL, Mumbai remained on sixth place with 12 points from 10 games.
FC Goa made three changes in their starting line up, bringing in Jofre Mateu Gonzalez, Mandar Rao and Dudu who made his debut on Tuesday.
Mumbai City FC, on the other hand, made two changes bringing in Sunil Chhetri and Lalchhunmmawia Fanai in place of Subash Singh and Brendon Fernandes who is ruled out of the competition.
The home side started in right earnest as they made inroads with steady flow of passes with Mandar Rao and Romeo Fernandes using the flanks well to put pressure on the rival defence.
Mumbai succumbed to the pressure in the 33rd minute when Jonatan Lucca sent a through pass to Dudu whose chip rolled towards the goal after deflecting from a rival defender and Haokip simply put the ball into the net to score the 100th goal of the ISL.
Spurred by the goal, the home team piled up pressure and increased the lead in the 41st minute.
Mumbai FC, who relied on the counter moves, came close to scoring twice but Goa keeper Laxmikant Kattimani made saves from strikes by Nicolas Anelka and Cristian Bustos.
The second half was totally dominated by the home side as they swelled the lead through a goal from Haokip who slotted the ball into the net after defender Cristian Bustos failed to intercept a cross from Jofre in the 52nd minute.
The home team took complete control of the proceeding and pumped in four more goals. Dudu scored twice in quick succession to score his hat-trick. Haokip scored the fourth hat-trick of the tournament with a gentle push after Romeo Fernandes made a solo run on the right.
Substitute Reinaldo Oliveira then rounded off the tally in the 90th minute to give the home team a memorable win.
