FC Goa struck late to floor NorthEast United FC 2-1 for their first home win this season in the Hero Indian Super League on Friday.
Playing at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Margao, local hero Romeo Fernandes netted in the fourth minute of added time to hand the hosts full points.
In a match that had many a twist, NEUFC drew first blood after Seityasen Singh scored for the visitors in the 49th minute.
FC Goa’s Robin Singh found the equaliser in the 61st minute before Sahil Tavora was sent off for a 2nd yellow 10 minutes later.
But in a dramatic finish, Romeo Fernandes scored the match-winner with just a few seconds left into the four-minute injury time to the wild celebration of home fans.
FC Goa were down in the 49th minute after Seityasen Singh provided NorthEast United with the lead but equalised through Robin Singh in the 61st minute. Goa were then reduced to 10 men after Sahil Tavora was sent off but Romeo Fernandes.
With the win, Goa broke their winless streak at home to notch up their third victory and take their tally to 10 points, the same as NorthEast and Chennaiyin FC, but still remain at the bottom of the league table on inferior goal difference.
Despite the loss, NorthEast United also remained at the sixth spot.
