Ace shuttler Jwala Gutta suffered twin defeats in mixed doubles and women's doubles categories to crash out as India's challenge ended in the Hong Kong Super Series badminton tournament in Hong Kong on Thursday.
Jwala and her women's doubles partner Ashwini Ponappa suffered a 9-21 10-21 defeat against third seed Chinese Jing Du and Yang Yu in just 19 minutes in the second round.
The 26-year-old Hyderabadi later paired up with V Diju in the mixed doubles but couldn't get past the English duo of Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg.
In a marathon match, the Indian combo played their hearts out before going down 29-27 13-21 18-21 after a 50-minute battle.
Meanwhile, Indian men's doubles pair of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas lost their second rould tie 17-21 21-17 13-21 to Indonesia's Alven Yulianto Chandra and Hendra Aprida Gunawan.
"The first game was close, it was 16-15. But then they changed the pace a bit and we made some mistakes. In fact all the three games we were leading but could not convert it to victory," Thomas said after the match.
"It was our match, we were leading in the third 11-8 but some crucial errors from the umpire cost us the match," he added.
