The Indian football team moved a place up to 168 in the latest FIFA rankings issued on Thursday.
India, who last month won a hat-trick of Nehru Cup titles, have 114 points.
Reigning world champions and Euro 2012 winners Spain continued to top the table with 1611 points even as five-time FIFA World Cup winners Brazil slumped to a lowly 14th.
Germany remained static in the second spot with 1459 points while Portugal moved a place up to third with 1259 points.
Argentina, who made a leap of three places, and England, who went down two rungs, complete the top-5.
Nehru Cup participants, Afghanistan, were two places above India at 166th, while neighbours Bangladesh and Pakistan were 169th and 177th, respectively.
