Ryuji Sueoka and Francis Fernandes scored a goal in each half to guide Salgaocar to their eight win as they beat JCT to a convincing 2-0 in the eleventh round of the I-League, played at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda in Margao, on Sunday.
Salgaocar, adopted an attacking approach from the start as they dominated the midfield and made inroads into the rival box with quick short passes but met stiff resistance from the rival defence who thwarted their moves.
Salgaocar's persistent effort bore fruit as they took the lead in the 33rd minute after coming close to scoring twice.
Defender Jaspal Parmar who moved on top on the right flank sent a high cross in the box, Ryuji Sueoka who followed the ball leaped high to nod the ball into the far corner of the net beating rival keeper Naveen Kumar all ends.
JCT, who came with few counter moves nearly equalized three minutes later when Jagpreet Singh's fierce shot from a free kick deflected rival defender and was going into the goal but Salgaocar's alert keeper Karanjit Singh made a diving save to deny JCT an equaliser.
Salgaocar keeper Karanjit again rose to the occasion in the second half in similar fashion to deny JCT the equalizer when Jagpreet Singh's free kick from the left deflected man of the match Luciano Sobrosa and was going in but keeper's quick presence of mind saw him making a diving save.
Ekene Ikenwa who was found wanting upfront had a chance to increase the lead but he fumbled in front of the keeper as he drove the ball out after beating a rival defender off a pass from Gilbert Oliveira.
