East Bengal began their I-League campaign in style, thrashing Shillong Lajong FC 4-0 in a one-sided match in Shillong on Wednesday.
James Moga opened scoring for the visitors in the 20th minute, heading home a low corner kick from Ralte.
Chidi Edeh doubled the lead in the dying minutes of the first half, dribbling past three Lajong defenders before finding the target with a powerful right-footer.
The visitors could have scored another goal through Chidi had Lallawmzuala not cleared the ball on the goal-line in time.
From then on, it was no looking back for East Bengal and they scored twice again after the lemon break.
Calvin Lobo deepened Lajong's wounds when he scored in the 55th minutes after being fed by Moga, before the last-named scored his second goal of the match in the 61st minute.
Dempo hold Salgaocar 1-1
Dempo fought back from a goal down to hold Salgaocar 1-1 in an exciting I-League match at Duler Stadium in Mapusa, Goa.
Salgaocar looked the better of the two sides in the first-half and took the lead in the 40th minute through Darryl Duffy.
But Dempo fought back, especially in the latter part of the second, and equalised through Jeje Lalpekhlua in the 81st minute.
While Salgaocar now have seven points from two wins and a draw, Dempo, who drew their third match, have three points from four outings.
