Argentina captain Lionel Messi paid rich tributes to football legend Diego Maradona, who died on Wednesday after suffering a heart attack.
"A very sad day for all Argentinians and for football. He has left us but he isn't going anywhere because Diego is eternal. I’ll remember the lovely moments I experienced with him and I send my condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace," Messi said on Instagram.
Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi has cited Argentina legend Diego Maradona as his biggest inspiration behind starting a career in football.
"If anybody inspired me starting out, it was undoubtedly him," he had said in 2015.
The duo has constantly been compared in terms of their playing style, in addition to having represented Spanish giant club Barcelona and captained Argentina.
Messi and Maradona worked together when the latter managed the Argentine national team for two years -- between 2008 and 2010.
