It was Ghosal's first major win of 2014, and he will take on another Egyptian and fourth seed Mohamed Elshorbagy in the quarter-finals.
"Won 3-1 in a really good match against Tarek today. I thought it was going to be a battle and it didn't disappoint! Happy to be through," Ghosal tweeted after his match.
"Playing Mohammed El Shorbagy in the quarters. We have had some good matches in the past. Time to be prepared for another big one!" wrote India's numero uno male squash player.
However, in the women's event, India's Dipika Pallikal lost a tough first round battle against Low Wee Wern of Malaysia in the $50,000 WSA event.
Pallikal, world No.10, lost 5-11, 11-8, 7-11, 14-12, 6-11 against fifth seed Wern in a battle lasting 80 minutes.
