Hamilton and Mercedes want to work together for 'years to come'

British ace racer Lewis Hamilton has said that he expects to be at Mercedes for years to come after he was crowned world champion on Sunday for the second time.

Hamilton said that without a doubt he would be at Mercedes for the next two or three years, and added that he hopes to stay longer. He said that he has been a part of Mercedes since he was 13, so it's a natural progression.

Hamilton began his career at McLaren whose engines were supplied by Mercedes, but moved to the German team at the end of the 2012 season.

After the Briton's victory in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix where he pipped teammate Nico Rosberg to the title, Mercedes’ executive director, Toto Wolff, said that he intended to sit down with Hamilton and discuss a new contract straight away, The Mirror reported.

Wolff said that "they would like to continue with Hamilton for a long, long time and added that they would talk on Monday itself regarding the same”.

Hamilton confirmed that they are happy with where they are and what they have achieved together, adding that Wolff was just saying in the coming weeks they would sit down and hopefully it would be a simple process to go through, a formality.

Hamilton would again be paired with Rosberg after the German signed a new contract with Mercedes over the summer and is expecting a renewal of hostilities with his teammate next season.

He said that he believes naturally Rosberg's going to be coming back strong next year, adding that one is always going to have a battle, admitting that he has never wanted to have an easy race.

Hamilton said that having that competition is what keeps him going, and added that Rosberg did an exceptional job.
