Former record holder Powell tests positive - agent

Jamaica's former world 100 meters record holder Asafa Powell tested positive for a stimulant at last month's national championships, his agent told Reuters on Sunday.

"We are working with WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) now on how it got in his system," Paul Doyle said by telephone.

Earlier, former double sprint world champion Tyson Gay said he had tested positive for a substance he could not identify and was pulling out of next month's world championships in Moscow.

Gay, who had the year's fastest 100 metres time of 9.75 seconds, said in telephone conference call to two reporters, he was notified by the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) on Friday that his A sample from an out-of-competition test on May 16 had returned a positive.

Five Jamaican athletes, including two Olympic medallists, a;sp tested positive for banned performance-enhancing drugs at last month's national championships, sources close to Jamaican athletics told Reuters.

The sources said two of the athletes are sprinters while three competed in field events. They said one of the athletes is a junior.
