First look: It Paes to have a family

September 03, 2009

Indian tennis ace Leander Paes besides kickstarting his US Open campaign with a win took some time off to spend with his family.

Paes and his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy, seeded fourth this year, pulled off a hard-fought victory 7-6(13/11), 7-6(7/4) over the Romanian pair of Victor Hanescu and Gabriel Trifu to enter the second round of the US Open men's doubles at Flushing Meadows on Tuesday night.

Here he is seen with wife Rhea Pillai and daughter Aiyana in a New York restaurant.

Earlier, in June this year, Paes won the men's doubles final at the French Open with his partner Czech's Lukas Dlouhy.

They defeated South African-Belgian pair of Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman in the final 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

This was Paes ninth Grand Slam title in his illustrious career.

Paes also won 2008 US Open Mixed Doubles event with Cara Black beating the American-British pairing of Liezel Huber and Jamie Murray 7-6, 6-4 in the final.

However, the Indian came up second best in the men's doubles final, losing to the Bryan twins Mike and Bob of the United States.

The loss derived Paes of winning a doubles and mixed doubles crown at a major for the second time.

In 1999, Paes had partnered Mahesh Bhupathi and Lisa Raymond to win the men's doubles and mixed doubles crowns at Wimbledon.
