Nico Rosberg will start his home German Grand Prix on Sunday from pole position after setting the fastest time in qualifying on Saturday.
Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen was fifth fastest ahead of team mate Sebastian Vettel who struggled to match the Finn on his first appearance in the Italian team’s scarlet colours on home soil.
Rosberg heads into Sunday’s race at the 4.5-km Hockenheim track trailing Hamilton by six points in the standings after conceding the championship lead to the Briton at last weekend's race in Hungary.
