Bolton snatch 1-1 draw at West Ham

November 05, 2007 09:33 IST

West Ham United defender George McCartney scored his first club goal in over seven years on Sunday but Kevin Nolan made it 1-1 in injury time to snatch a Premier League point for struggling Bolton Wanderers.

McCartney, whose only other goal as a professional came for Northern Ireland in September 2001, looked as if he had been banging them in all his life as he acrobatically hooked in a volley after Bolton failed to clear a 19th-minute corner.

Danny Guthrie and Kevin Davies hit the woodwork for Bolton before they grabbed their point when Nolan scored from close range three minutes into stoppage time.

It was only their second point from six away games but a second successive league draw for manager Gary Megson, who took over from Sammy Lee last month.

Bolton, with only one win so far, remain second-last on seven points while West Ham stay 11th on 15.

In Saturday's action, William Gallas grabbed a last-minute equaliser to earn Arsenal a 2-2 home draw with Manchester United and leave the two locked together at the top of the standings.

Chelsea are three points behind both clubs after a 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic while Portsmouth moved to fourth with a 4-1 win at Newcastle United after scoring three in the first 11 minutes.

Manchester City play Sunderland on Monday.
