East Bengal on Friday showcaused their Brazilian striker Edmilson Marques who had a spat with coach Subhas Bhowmick that led to a scuffle with team-mate Saumik Dey inside the dressing room.
Livid with Edmilson's misconduct on Thursday, the club has refrained him from joining practice.
"We have asked him for an explanation for his actions within 24 hours and he is not allowed to join practice. Players have objected to his presence during practice so he will have to sit out. He will also be excluded from the Durand Cup squad," East Bengal football secretary Santosh Bhattacharya said.
Edmilson turned up for practice on Friday morning at the club tent and remained on the bench.
The Brazilian was later seen having a word with India captain Bhaichung Bhutia, who had come to watch the practice.
Bhutia, who has signed for East Bengal for the upcoming season, is engaged in a row with Mohun Bagan.
An ugly incident occurred between the coach and the player after Edmilson was fouled by Bhowmick during a practice match.
He also reportedly beat up Saumik Dey in the dressing room.
"The incident on the field was something routine, but what happened in the dressing room was totally uncalled for. Everybody is livid. He has to provide an explanation and bear the consequences," Bhattacharya said.
