Argentine football legend Diego Maradona has reportedly been accused of assaulting his former girlfriend, who has video footage of an altercation in which the football icon allegedly hit her.

According to reports in Spain, the video shows 54-year-old Maradona with 24-year-old Rocio Oliva.

The couple was engaged but broke up in June.

Oliva claimed to have suffered domestic violence from Maradona and has evidence to prove it, Fox News reported.

The exchange in the video has reportedly been translated as Maradona angrily telling Oliva to stop looking at her mobile phone. Oliva replies by saying that why can't she look at her phone.

Maradona then approaches from across the room and appears to strike out to which Oliva responds by saying 'Stop hitting, Diego'.

Maradona has already been in the headlines recently for a violent incident, having slapped a male journalist across the face in August.
