Vinesh Phogat created history, becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in wrestling at the Asian Games in Jakarta on Monday.
The young Haryana wrestler outclassed Japan's Yuki Irie 6-2 in the summit clash in the women's 50kg category.
A knee injury had cut short Vinesh's campaign two years ago at the Rio Olympic Games, but she proved to be unstoppable on Monday.
The gold also enabled Vinesh to achieve another feat as she became the only woman wrestler to win two medals in back-to-back Asian Games.
Vinesh had earlier won a bronze medal in the 48kg category at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. She also won back-to-back gold medals in Glasgow and Gold Coast Commonwealth Games this year.
Join us in congratulating Vinesh on her splendid achievement.
