Chat with Olympic shooter Vijay Kumar

June 07, 2012

The name Vijay Kumar hasn't made the headlines as much as some of India's top shooters despite his exploits on the international stage.

The 26-year-old is the country's leading pistol shooter, having won medals at every major event he's participated in, and a medal contender at the London Olympics.

Kumar created a sensation by winning three gold medals and a silver from the four 25 metre pistol events he participated in at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. The same year, he won a bronze medal at the Asian Games.

In 2011, he finished second in the 25 metre centre-fire pistol at the Asian Championships. His biggest victory, though, was at the 2009 ISSF World Cup in Beijing, where he won silver medal, missing the gold medal by a narrow margin of 0.1 points, in the rapid fire pistol event.

Kumar is supported by Olympic Gold Quest, which is doing everything possible so that he fulfills his dream of winning a medal at the upcoming Games.

The ace pugilist will be on Rediff.com's Zara Bol chat on Thursday, June 7, at 1030 IST. Join in and discuss his preparations for the Olympics. Find out what it takes for a shooter to hit the bull's eye.
