Swiss tennis giant Roger Federer jokes around with kids at his charity event in Malawi on Monday.

Tennis ace Roger Federer has launched a childcare centre in impoverished southern African nation, Malawi, funded by his charity foundation, saying that he was determined to help the children of one of the poorest countries in the world.

Federer's charity foundation had been working in Malawi since 2011 and has already opened 80 pre-schools across the country.

On his first visit to the African nation, the World No 2 said that the new pre-school is an important milestone in the lives of the children, Sport24 reported.

At the inaugural function, the 17- time Grand Slam champion said that there are many children who are still waiting for good pre-schools and early child development centers.

About $13.5 million have been invested into the project which Federer hopes would provide support to about 150,000 Malawian children by 2021.

Federer, however, urged the politicians to lay more emphasis on early education of children, saying that the government of Malawi needs more efforts and more funds to improve the situation.
