Defending champions Australia routed Netherlands 7-2 to top the standings in the Champions Trophy hockey tournament in Melbourne on Sunday.

Earlier, South Korea rallied from a goal down to beat Olympic champions Germany 5-3 and Spain equalised in the last three minutes to register a 3-3 draw with England.

Australia's Grant Schubert scored a hat-trick in the first half to go into the break with a 5-1 lead.

The Netherlands scored first, a second-minute penalty corner to Taeke Taekema, but the Aussies fought back. Along with Schubert, Brett Dancer and Glenn Turner also sounded the boards in the second half.

Schubert opened the floodgates with a penalty stroke conversion, Turner drove home a field goal and Dancer flicked a penalty corner conversion on a variation before Schubert pounced again with field goals inside two minutes just before the break.

Luke Doerner registered Australia's sixth goal through a penalty corner drive. Jamie Dwyer nailed a backstick drive from the left for Australia's last goal. Robert Kemperman scored against the run of play to give the Dutch a consolation goal in the final minutes.
