Iraqi first division player Ihab Kareem has died as a result of injuries sustained in a bombing in Baghdad last week, the Asian Football Confederation reported on its Web site.

The Al Sena midfielder was seriously injured in an explosion last Monday that killed more than 80 people at the Al Shourjah commercial area of the Iraqi capital.

His team mate Ahmed Naser lost a leg

in the explosion and remains in critical condition.

"We have lost one of our most important and prodigious players in midfield," Al Sena coach Said Mohamed Al Sheikhli told the AFC Web site (www.the-afc.com).

"Ahmed Naser is serious and we have lost his services too. Doctors have informed us that they have amputated Naser's leg from the hip down in a high-risk operation."
