Mohun Bagan's Moroccan coach Karim Bencherifa stepped down on Thursday following the club's ongoing poor performance in the I-League this season.
Former Mohun Bagan midfielder Satyajit Chatterjee was named the team's coach for the remainder of the season.
"Our parting of ways has been mutually agreed upon," Mohun Bagan general secretary Anjan Mitra said in Kolkata at a news conference, where Bencherifa was also present.
"The club is having a lean period and we think a change is needed to get results. It [Bencherifa's leaving] is mutually agreed upon," he added.
Interim coach Chatterjee had earlier served as Bencherifa's assistant before resigning.
Bencherifa, meanwhile, said he enjoyed his stint with Mohun Bagan and always tried to his give best.
