Defending champions Indian Oil brightened their semi-final hopes with a 5-3 win over Hockey Bhopal in the quarter-final league of the 117th All-India Beighton Cup Hockey Tournament at the SAI artificial turf in Kolkata on Tuesday.
Hockey Bhopal drew first blood though Mohammad Taj in the 16th minute, but last year's winners rode on a double strike by Gurjinder Singh (34th, 40th minute) to take a 2-1 lead.
Roshan Minz (52nd, 68th minute) and Gunashekhar (57th) completed the tally for Indian Oil, even as Hockey Bhopal showed some fight through Osafur Rahman (53rd) and Amir-ur-Rahman's efforts.
In another match, Army XI scored through Bhushan Kujur (20th), Muthanna P R (28th), Poovana B P (62nd) and Ignace Tirkey (69th) to thrash Indian Overseas Bank 4-1.
Indian Overseas Bank got their goal in the 65th minute through Adam Sinclair.
