Two-time silver medallist P V Sindhu produced yet another commanding performance as she defeated second seed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals of the BWF Badminton World Championships, in Basel, on Friday.
The fifth seeded Indian won 12-21, 23-21, 21-19 in the women's singles quarter-finals match that lasted 71 minutes and thus assured herself of a fifth medal.
Tai Tzu looked supremely fit, extremely confident and played quick drops, smashes and also tried out some ambitious strokes to move to game point at 20-11.
After the change of sides, Sindhu managed to a 2-0 lead. However, Tai Tzu drew parity at 2-2. But Sindhu did not give up. She came back 8-8 before leading 11-9 at the break.
The former World No 1 came back 12-12 and did not let Sindhu control the rallies. But Tai Tzu was playing catching up and Sindhu won the second game 23-21.
In the third game Tai Tzu led 4-1 and at break she was leading 11-9.
The two were locked at 14-14. Sindhu got slight advantage at crucial point 18-17.The momentum changed and the game was locked again at 19-19.
The Indian finally won 21-19.
