Preeja Sreedharan earned the first medal for India, winning silver in women's 10,000 metres run in the Asian Athletics Championships in Amman.
Sreedharan clocked 36:04.54 seconds, finishing second behind Kareema Saleh Jasmin of Bahrain (34:26.39s) on Wednesday, the first day of the continental event.
Sreedharan's timing was, however, way behind her personal best of 33:48.45s. The third place went to Mi Gyong Kim of Korea, with a timing of 38:29.90s.
In men's 1500m final, Chatholi Hamza was fourth, clocking 3:49.11s and missed the bronze medal which went to Qatar's Abubaker Ali Kamal, who clocked 3:47.22s.
Another Indian in the fray, Sajeesh Joseph finished sixth with a timing of 3:53.89s. Saudi Arabia's Otmman H Shaween won the gold, clocking 3:46.85s while Sajad Moradi of Iran placed second (3:47.01s).
In the hammer throw, Nirbhay Singh finished seventh with a throw of 62.54 metres while Hari Sankar Roy finished fifth in high jump, clearing 2.18 metres.
