Arsenal keeper breaks leg

December 26, 2002 16:03 IST
English Premier league club Arsenal's Swedish goalkeeper Rami Shaaban fractured his leg during a training session on Christmas eve, according to media reports.

Shaaban, 27, who joined Arsenal from Swedish club Djurgarden in August, underwent surgery on Tuesday and is set to miss the rest of the season.

"It is a terrible blow for both Rami and the club," Arsenal said in a statement carried by the BBC.

Swedish daily newspaper Aftonbladet reported on Wednesday that the player, signed as cover for England goalkeeper David Seaman, fractured his shinbone in two places.
