Chetan Anand wins Toulouse Open

National champion Chetan Anand won the Men's Singles of the Toulouse Open Badminton Championship in Cahors, France, beating Kasper Oedum of Denmark in a three setter.

Chetan prevailed over high higher ranked opponent in 63 minutes 15-5, 11-15, 15-10.

Earlier in the tournament, India's number two Arvind Bhat had upset the tournament's top seed and World No 11 Bjorn Joppien of Germany in a thrilling pre quarterfinal match.

Arvind was beaten in the quarters by Chetan in probably the most bitterly fought match of the tournament 15-10, 8-15, 16-17, national badminton coach Vimal Kumar said in a statement here.

Indian duo of Sanave Thomas and Rupesh Kumar did the country proud by winning the men's doubles event beating Ingo Kindervater and Kristoff Hopp of Germany 15-7, 15-13.

India's top women's doubles combination of Jwala Gutta and Shruti Kurien finished runner up in Toulouse losing to the number two seeds Petya Nedelcheva and Anastasia Russkikh of Russia 11-15, 6-15.

The women's singles event was won by Ella Karachkova of Russia who beat Sara Persson of Sweden 7-11, 13-10, 11-13, in the finals.

"This is by far the best performance by Indian players in International tournaments in the last two years," Kumar said in the statement.

The Indian team now moves to Glasgow for the Scottish Open which starts on November 25.
