Delhi Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi may soon be behind bars after the Central Bureau of Investigation revealed it has collected concrete documentary evidence against him that establishes role in the Queen's Baton Relay, it was reported on Tuesday.
"We have found direct evidence against Kalmadi during the custodial interrogation of TS Darbari and Sanjay Mahendroo, and during the examination of the documents recovered. We are deliberating his arrest on his return from the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China," a source was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
The CBI has sought further custodial interrogation of Darbari and Mahendroo, saying: "The accused have remained evasive during custodial interrogation and we need to interrogate them extensively."
The report also states that, in a letter to the CBI director earlier this month, Darbari said that Kalmadi was at the helm of affairs and all decisions were endorsed and approved by him.
