Fourth seeds Bhupathi-Knowles converted four of 10 break points to defeat Bjorkman and Ullyett 6-2, 6-4 in an hour and 13 minutes.

The Indo-Bahamian pair are chasing their third ATP title of the season after triumphing at Memphis and Dubai. They will meet Polish No. 7 seeds Marcin Matkoswki and Mariusz Fyrstenberg in Sunday's final.

The Poles saved three match points to defeat South African eighth seeds Jeff Coetzee and Wesley Moodie 6-7(4), 7-6(5), 12-10.

Fyrstenberg and Matkowski finished runners-up to Bob and Mike Bryan in the final last season and are through to their first ATP Masters Series final since then.

In the quarterfinals on Friday they edged past second seeds and Wimbledon champions Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic also in a match tie-break.

The 34-year-old Bhupathi captured the Madrid title in 2003 and finished runner-up in 2002, both times with Max Mirnyi, while the Knowles captured the title three times with Daniel Nestor in 2002, '04 and '05.
