Gaurav Ghei's title defence ended in disaster as he missed the cut by a stroke after carding an even-par 72 in the second round of the Pine Valley Beijing Open on Friday.

Among the other Indians, the day belonged to Rahil Gangjee, who turned in a brilliant four-under 68 to leapfrog from overnight tied 59th to tied 17th position.

Gangjee knocked down birdies on the fifth, eighth, 11th, 16th and 18th against a lone bogey on the par-three 12th hole. The effort took his overall score to four-under 140.

Digvijay Singh joined Gangjee as the other Indian representative in the field at tied 58th.

Digvijay's second successive 72 -- studded with birdies on the 14th and ninth against bogeys on the second and third -- helped him make the cut which stood at even-par 144.

Ghei totalled a one-over 145 to crash out and joining him was Amandeep Johl (157), who carded 80.

Japan's Hiroyuki Fujita grabbed the second-round lead after a solid seven-under 65. The 39-year-old fired nine birdies against two bogeys that took his total to 12-under 132.

Fujita gained a two-stroke advantage over 19-year-old Thai star Chinnarat Phadungsil, who shot a 69.
