Murray ruled out of French Open

May 19, 2007 22:19 IST

Andy Murray will miss the French Open because of the wrist injury he suffered at the Hamburg Masters earlier this week.

The world number 10 was forced to retire when leading 5-1 against Italian Filippo Volandri in Germany on Tuesday and a scan revealed a damaged tendon in his right wrist.

"He's pulled the plug on the claycourt season and we're hoping he'll be back and ready to compete at Queen's in a few weeks," Murray's coach Brad Gilbert was quoted as saying on the 20-year-old's Web site.

Gilbert said Murray was due to see a specialist in the next couple of days.

The French Open starts on May 27.

The Artois grasscourt tournament begins at Queen's Club on June 11, with Wimbledon starting on June 25.
