Liverpool scored a goal in each half to beat Shanghai Shenhua of China 2-0 in the opening match of the Port of Rotterdam tournament on Friday.

Spaniard Fernando Torres opened the scoring after 12 minutes with his first goal since moving to Liverpool for a club record 36 million euros ($49.35 million) from Atletico Mardid when he picked up a defence splitting pass from Yossi Benayoun.

Steven Gerrard, who came on in the second half with Dutchmen Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel, doubled Liverpool's lead in the 65th minute with a beautiful shot from 25 metres.

In the other match Feyenoord and Porto drew 0-0 leaving Liverpool, who face the Dutch on Sunday, top of the table with three points ahead of the hosts and Portuguese on one point.
