Dutchman Herman Kruis became the first foreign coach of the Indian women's hockey team. He has been appointed for the forthcoming Asia Cup to be held in Hong Kong from September 1 to 9.
Kruis, on Thursday reached Lucknow and took charge of the ongoing senior camp, which began in the first week of July.
Altogether 36 probables are preparing for the continental tournament at the camp that will continue till August 27.
Kruis has been cleared to coach the senior Indian team which is preparing for the Asia Cup, a statement from the Indian Women's Hockey Federation said. Sources in the IWHF said though Kruis' appointment is temporary at the moment, but is likely to be extended.
Kruis has impressive credentials as a coach and has successfully guided various teams in different indoor and outdoor tournaments.
The Executive Director of Johan Cruyff College for talented sportspersons, Kruis was the coach of the Hertogenbosch women's team since 2000 which was the Dutch national champion seven consecutive times.
He was also the coach of the Dutch national indoor hockey team that won European Club Championship for seven consecutive years.
Kruis was also the chief coach of the Dutch national team that won the FIH Indoor World Cup in Vienna this year.
