Raikkonen recovered for Monza

September 06, 2006 11:29 IST
McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen is fully fit for Sunday's Italian Grand Prix after missing testing last week to recover from a crash at the previous race in Turkey.

"My back was a bit sore so we decided that I would rest to get properly fit for this race rather than test," said the Finn in a team preview on Tuesday.

"But I am totally fine, there are no problems from the incident and I am looking forward to getting back in the car. It has been feeling

really strong recently so I hope we can have more of a race in Monza than in Istanbul."

McLaren won last year at Monza, Ferrari's home circuit, with Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya while Raikkonen set the fastest race lap.

Sunday's grand prix, the last in Europe this season, could herald Raikkonen's departure from Mercedes-powered McLaren with Ferrari widely expected to announce the Finn as one of their drivers for 2007 after the race.
