Air India, Mumbai, defeated Army XI 6-3 via the tie-breaker (4-1) to win the 28th Governor's Gold Cup Football tournament, at the Paljor stadium in Gangtok, on Thursday.

Air India had last won the trophy in 1996.

The teams were locked 2-2 at the end of regulation time.

Bashiru M Abbas put Air India ahead in the 14th minute. He latched on to a loose ball, beat a host of Army defenders and drove home.

The Mumbai side consolidated the lead in the 58th minute through their captain Samson Singh.

But Army XI pulled one back when striker Mohd Ibrahim scored following a mix-up in the Air India defence.

The goal spurred the Trojans and they restored parity in the 67th minute when their skipper Trinakalsu nodded home a free-kick.

In the tie-breaker, Sumit Thapa, Javed Ansari, Samson Singh and Alex Ambrose converted the kicks while only Amar could find the net for the army side.
