Air India get full points from Fransa tie

March 22, 2006 15:33 IST

The All India Football Federation has decided to award Air India all the three points for the disputed National Football League match against Fransa Pax.

It said Air India is not at fault for skipping their replay against Fransa.

Announcing the decision in Delhi on Wednesday, AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco said, "The consequences for failure to turn up for a scheduled match are serious. But, in the present case, Air India is not at fault."

On February 24, Air India had filed a protest against the AIFF's decision to play the match after the Goan side failed to turn up for the originally scheduled February 3 game, protesting 'poor' refereeing in their earlier match against Mahindra United.

The AIFF then rescheduled the match for March 2, but this time Air India protested, calling the decision unfair and informing the AIFF that it would not be possible to field a team as most of its players were on leave.

After much deliberation, the AIFF on Wednesday said three points are awarded to Air India.
