India sixth in men's hockey rankings

July 31, 2006 17:34 IST

The Indian men's hockey team retained its sixth position in the latest world rankings despite not participating in the Champions Trophy, which concluded on Sunday, in Terrassa, Spain.

India haven't added to the 1155 points it had last December but is still ranked among the top six teams in the game.

Arch-rivals Pakistan, who finished fifth at Terrassa, are a spot higher with 1373 points.

The list shows no changes at the top, but after their fourth place finish in the Champions Trophy, top-ranked Australia are running the risk of losing their number one position to the Netherlands.

The Aussies, with 1695 points, are closely followed by the Dutch, who lifted the six-nation title in Spain, with 1638 points.

Germany and Spain stay in third and fourth respectively.

Argentina is the only that competed in Terrassa to improve its ranking, moving up two spots to seventh.

Top 10 teams: Australia (1695), the Netherlands (1638), Germany (1565), Spain (1518), Pakistan (1373), India (1155), Argentina (1075), Korea (975), New Zealand (833), South Africa (750).
