January 11, 2006

India retained the Leander Paes-led four-member squad from their World Group playoff against Sweden for the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group I tie against South Korea with Karan Rastogi as a reserve player.

After the selection committee meeting, under the chairmanship of Shyam Minotra in New Delhi on Wednesday, the All India Tennis Association (AITA) annouced that Leander Paes will be the playing captain of the squad, also including Mahesh Bhupathi, Prakash Amritraj and Rohan Bopanna.

Karan Rastogi was named the reserve player while Nandal Bal is the coach of the side.

The Indian team will travel to South Korea for the tie at the Changwon Municipal Tennis Courts from February 10 to 12.

AITA also announced the Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group I match to be held on the hard courts of Olympic Park, Seoul, Korea in the week commencing April 17.

Sania Mirza and Shikha Uberoi were confirmed in the Fed Cup team.

AITA will pick the other members after observing ''their performance in a camp to be organized by AITA and the two ITF 10,000 dollar Women Futures to be held in Delhi and Chennai in the month of March and April 2006 respectively,'' an AITA release said.

Seven nations - Australia, Chinese Taipei, India, Korea, New Zealand, Philippines and Uzbekistan -- will compete with each other and the winners will be promoted to the World Group playoffs in July.
