Indian hockey player Sandeep Singh was on Tuesday injured after being shot accidentally by a Railway Protection Force jawan near Kurukshetra inside the Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi Express.
Railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has ordered a probe into the incident.
"Singh, who was on his way to Delhi, received injuries in his foot and was admitted to a nearby hospital from where he was later shifted to PGI in Chandigarh. Our international hockey player has been injured and we would certainly probe the incident," Lalu said.
Singh, who was travelling with another hockey player Rajpal Singh, was injured when the RPF jawan's gun went off accidentally, Indian Hockey Federation vice-president Chandrashekhar said. Singh is a part of the Indian squad for the World Cup.
The Indian team is slated to leave for Germany on August 24, where the World Cup will be played from September 6 to 17.
The condition of the national-level player is stable, he added.
The train has been halted at Kurukshetra to record the statement of eye-witnesses, sources said.
