Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi met with contrasting results alongside their respective partners in the men's doubles event of the US $2.45 million Cincinnati Open tennis tournament in Ohio.
Paes teamed with Martin Damm of the Czech Republic to advance to the quarter-finals while Bhupathi and his American partner Justin Gimelstob were ousted in the second round of the elite tournament on Wednesday.
Paes-Damm, seeded seventh, defeated their unseeded opponents Lukas Dlouhy and Pavel Vizner of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-3.
The Australian Open finalists, with 21-13 win-loss record this season, will now face Mark Knowles of Bahamas and Daniel Nestor of Canada for a place in the semi-finals.
In the other match, Bhupathi and Gimelstob lost to sixth seeds Jonathan Erlich of Argentina and Andy Ram of Israel 6-7(1/7), 7-5, 4-10.
The 'Indian Express' of Paes and Bhupathi had won the title in 2001.
