England midfielder Michael Carrick completed his transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Manchester United on Monday after passing a medical.
The two clubs agreed a fee of up to 18.6 million pounds ($34.59 million) for the 25-year-old.
Carrick will don the number 16 shirt, previously worn by former captain Roy Keane who left United in November 2005.
"Carrick should make his United bow against either Porto or Ajax at this weekend's Amsterdam Tournament," the Premier League club said in a statement on its website.
Carrick joined Spurs for 2.75 million pounds ($5.11 million) from West Ham United two years ago and had two years left on his contract.
He has seven England caps but made only one appearance at this year's World Cup in the 1-0 second-round win over Ecuador.
The midfielder will be introduced to media at a news conference on Wednesday.
