Unseeded Victor Troicki of Serbia defeated fourth seed Lukasz Kubot (Poland) 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to win the men's singles title at the PVG Cup Dharwad Open ATP Men's Challenger Tennis tourney on Sunday.
Troicki who started well lost his cool in the middle of the first set and eventually lost the set 3-6. However, he staged a rally in the second and made his opponent commit mistakes.
Kubot lost his first service game providing his rival the crucial break. He broke Troicki in the second game to level at 1-1.
Both held their serves till the score was 3-3. In the seventh game, Kubot lost his serve and seizing the opportunity, Troicki held his serves and closed out at 6-4.
In the decider, Kubot failed to hold his serve in the opening game. He did break Troicki in the sixth game to bring the score to 2-4.
In the tenth game, Troicki was unable to convert his first match point. But he did not let the opportunity go when he had another chance and won the set 6-4 to emerge winner.
Troicki bagged 50 ATP points and USD 3600 for his efforts while Kubot had to be content with 35 ATP points and 2120 USD.
