Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been handed a two-match ban following his sending-off in the Champions League match at Villarreal last week, the UEFA website reported on Tuesday.
"It is beyond any doubt that Wayne Rooney committed several disciplinary offences, notably by taking two yellow cards resulting in a red card, as well as by displaying unsporting conduct," UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Board said in a statement.
"As a result it is appropriate to impose a two-match ban."
Rooney, 19, will miss the home Champions League games against Benfica and Lille. United have until midnight on Friday to appeal against the decision.
