Davydenko breezes past Agassi

November 14, 2005 18:59 IST

Andre Agassi was swept aside 6-4, 6-2 by Russian Nikolay Davydenko at the season-ending Masters Cup on Monday.

The former world number one was completely outplayed in Shanghai in his first match since losing to Roger Federer in the US Open final two months ago.

Davydenko secured a double break in the second set with a backhand pass to go 5-2 up and raced through the final game to love when a frustrated Agassi dumped a forehand into the net.

The 35-year-old Agassi, winner of the Masters title in 1990, appeared to be struggling with his right shoulder and had little answer to Davydenko's power in a one-sided match.
